Possible Causes of Depression

Leading causes of depression are the ‘feel good’ chemical substances which include in the way the brain regulates. People whose brains don’t have enough of certain chemicals or do not give out certain chemicals will end up suffering from clinical depression.

These chemicals are necessary for a happy mood and when the body doesn’t get them, a person will feel sadness no matter what. However, there are other causes of depression that some people may not understand or expect. Let’s cover some of them here.

People can be depressed by outside factors as well but the major cause of depression is the chemical imbalance. People suffer from depression during the winter season or when there is less sunlight this is called seasonal affective disorder, or SAD.

People prefer sunny days more than gloomy days, and patients who are suffering from SAD get most affected by it. Cold air which is brought with winter also causes depression.

Many of these patients are advised to replace their standard light bulbs with those that mimic outside lights and to be outside as much as possible, even if it’s dark and dreary. Being cooped up inside with a lack of fresh air also contributes to their causes of depression so just being outside for a few minutes can help.

If you are learning about depression or negative thinking then you are teaching your body how to feel depressed and so eventually you will end up being clinically depressed. For example you might compare a person who purposely walks with a limp but he might eventually end up with a limp.

Depression also can be caused due to self-pride, trauma survived such as a natural disaster or crime or problems like job loss, financial crisis, or may be a divorce. A person usually thinks over these problems in a negative way and so ends up being depressed.

A person will not end up being depressed just because he carries a bad mood or is frustrated about some problem. Extreme negative thoughts only end up with a person being depressed.

There are probably numerous other causes of depression. Scientists and doctors are learning new things about this condition every single day. For example, extreme anxiety can lead a person to depression as the body just shuts down to that heightened state of awareness. Teenagers who have been victims of bullying are often prone to depression.

Doctors are working hard to find methods to treat depression. Still if your family members have depression then you also can be diagnosed with depression. So if you have a feeling that you are clinically depressed then please do consult a doctor without any hesitation.
